Congratulations to Bruxton Leair from Grants Pass High School on his 4th Place Win at SkillsUSA National Competition!
Bryan Blackhurst, Outside Sales/Gas Products, from our Medford, OR location shared the great news. “Bruxton almost made the podium this year. His goal was a top 10 finish, and he almost won the whole dang thing. Such a close race from the top 5. He finished 4th and got to see his buddy Trey from Rhode Island make the stage. Lots more work to put in to prepare for the opportunity to go back next year. I have no doubt he will continue to chase the ship, and put in the long, lonely hours under the hood,” said Bryan.
Bruxton took 1st Place at Stick Welding in April 2022 at the Oregon State Competition as a sophomore welding student. That should put him ahead of the game in the future! For finishing #1 in his age group, he will get an automatic bid from American Welding Society to come train with the world skills team in Florida! Bryan said, “If he places in the top 6 there, he will get another opportunity to compete for World Skills.”
Scott Kennedy and Bryan Blackhurst, Outside Sales from Central Welding Supply in Medford, OR support SkillsUSA events, and donate prizes for regional competitions, as well as share some needed welding supplies with participating schools.
Jake Leair and Brenda Bunge, Advisors for the SkillsUSA programs at GPHS, support student participation in a broad range of programs. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization for students enrolled in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.
